July 1, 2026
The United Kingdom has taken over the presidency of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for 2026-2028, with a primary focus on combating global fraud and other illicit financial flows. The new president, Giles Thomson, aims to enhance international cooperation and strengthen the application of FATF tools, including asset freezing and cross-border intelligence sharing. The presidency will also emphasize implementing a risk-based approach to financial crime and fostering information sharing across sectors to counter the increasing speed of illicit finance movements.
