Cyprus Retail Trade Sees Significant Increases in May

In May 2026, Cyprus experienced a 9.8% rise in the retail trade turnover value index and a 7.5% increase in the turnover volume index compared to the previous year, according to the Statistical Service. This growth reflects broader trends, as the period from January to May 2026 also saw a 7.1% increase in turnover value and a 5.9% increase in turnover volume.

Specific categories showing notable growth in value included automotive fuel, other household equipment, and cultural and recreation goods. In terms of volume, clothing and footwear, information and communication equipment, and other household equipment recorded the largest increases. Conversely, automotive fuel and categories like flowers, plants, watches, and jewelry experienced a decrease in turnover volume.
